Self-Colouring of ABS Engineering Thermoplastics
Technology Description:
Self-colouring technology involves mixing, in the injection moulding machine an un-pigmented natural grade of resin with a colour masterbatch to produce the desired colour in the moulded part at the time of manufacture.
European suppliers of engineering thermoplastics such as acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, ABS, resins are increasingly promoting natural grade resins as a replacement for pre-coloured compounds.
Purchasing managers are finding it increasingly difficult to source competitively priced pre-coloured ABS resins and are being encouraged to evaluate self-colouring in their businesses.
Services Provided by Excitim:
Excitim has extensive experience of implementing self-colouring of ABS and other engineering thermoplastics. Excitim offers a range of services to businesses needing to develop a comprehensive understanding of the benefits self-colouring technology offers; these services include:
- Impartial advice – Excitim has no affiliation to any resin, colour masterbatch or equipment suppliers
- Economic audit of the injection moulding workshop to define the total operational costs of production with pre-coloured resins
- Economic comparison of purchasing, supply-chain and total manufacturing costs of production with natural grade resin and colour masterbatch
- Co-ordination of resin selection, colour masterbatch and self-colouring approval trials
- Overall project management
